Gang violence amplified by the war on drugs
Many gangs tend to sell drugs to help support their organizations. These gangs are normally extremely violent and tend to deal with other competition by eliminating them through intimidation and even murder.
One city hit hard by gang violence is Chicago. In 2012 Chicago's murder rate reached 500. In 2011 their were 435 homicides and more than 2,400 shootings. Most of these murders are those of gang member and innocent people caught in the cross fire.
The war on drugs gives gangs an income that allows them to exist and expand causing more violence and death. Removing the drug war would remove most of all gangs income causing them to become weaker, and hopefully reducing the amounts of shootings and murders in the United States.
